kafra and mancara the three biggest pyramids on the giZa plateau! We
learned loads of history and. Modern work surroundin the pyramids from
our hilarious and brilliant guide ashraf, an egyptologist who has
discovered some amaIng things! We went inside the great pyramid and up
a steep shaft that you have to duck yourself to walk up... My
clausterphobia started to kick in, not to mention the sweltering
temperature and stale, limited air. Was it worth it? Absolutely! I
stood in the great pyramid! Next to a huge sarcophagus! Around the
pyramids there were ton of people from all over the world, as well as
camels, horses, and men/ boys attemtpring to push souvenirs upon you.
You could not look them in the eye or they would get the idea you were
interested and never leave your side. La shokran! No thank you!
Then the sphinx and a mummification tomb! Wow what a sight and so
close to the city life of cairo sits these wonders and an expanse of
desert.
Lunch was filafel grape leaves chicken kebabs tahini pita eggplant and
melon( which I opted not to risk).
After a needed rest and a move to a room with a working air
conditioner we started our scavenger hunt. We had a list of things to
find and buy. We met an old Egyptian man who called Amy an Egyptian
Queen and helped us find shoe polish and then led us to his store full
of useless souvenirs. We found a bookstore where a purchased a book by
eric carle in Arabic! We watched Germany and Argentina play with some
newspaper salesmen and carried on a half English half Arabic
conversation. Beautiful. Then dinner
At a fabulous Egyptian restaurant. Family style with fava beans yogurt
dip Tajin okra karoushi ( a pasta chickpea onion dish) and veal.
Delicious. Exhausted. Hopefully sleep will come more easily tonight.
Shokran. Thanks.
